Julie Hunter

Julie got her start in education as a result of her passion for social justice, and the belief that every child should be able to achieve success, no matter the zip code in which they were born. She began her career as a middle school English teacher in Providence, Rhode Island with Teach For America – an organization committed to advancing educational equity in Title I schools. From there, she moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to continue her career as a teacher, eventually pursuing school leadership.
Prior to coming to the lab, Julie spent the last 4 years as an Assistant Principal of Instruction, supporting the coaching and development of a team of 15 English and History teachers. In this capacity, she set a vision for what the student experience should entail in a highly effective classroom, and supported her teachers in creating inviting, affirming, and academically rigorous classroom spaces. She brings deep content knowledge, passion for collaboration, a sky-high bar for excellence, and a firm belief in the power of young people to her work as a School Success Manager. In her free time, Julie enjoys reading, doing yoga, watching the NBA, coaching middle school boys’ basketball, and spending time with her husband, Marqus, daughter, Zoey, and dog, Brooklyn.
