Ed Center

Managing Director

Ed Center is passionate about eradicating poverty through educational opportunity. He began his career as a high school teacher and peer resources coordinator at Balboa High School, a Title 1 school in San Francisco. From there he moved into education and youth development nonprofits, doing eclectic work such as designing and running afterschool programs, training teachers and youth workers, and scaling effective programs. In 2013, he worked with San Francisco Mayor Lee, the United Way, nonprofits and corporations to design and implement the Mayor’s Summer Youth Jobs initiative. This program connected 2300 opportunity youth to jobs and internships in its inaugural year. Ed spent eight years in education philanthropy with the United Way of the Bay Area, and Tipping Point Community.
Ed graduated with the most recent class of the Annie E. Casey Children and Family Fellowship. He has served on the board of directors or advisory board for The I Have a Dream Foundation, 2Gen Equity, the San Francisco Beacon Initiative, and the Citizens Advisory Council of the San Francisco Department of Children and Families. His favorite volunteer activity is coaching youth soccer.
